The Pont Saint-Louis is the only one to link the ile Saint-Louis to the ile de la Cite. In 1627, the architect Christophe Marie designed a wooden footbridge. In 1861,a metallic footbridge was built to replace the ancient, but it broke down against the crash of a canal-boat in 1939. Since 1970, a metallic walking bridge links the two islands.
