In 1629, Cardinal Richelieu erected a large and splendid building, the Palais-Cardinal which is attached a garden. Later, in 1780, the palace was expanded with the building on three sides of the garden facades of houses based on regular arcades of a long gallery lined with shops. Today, the garden consists of a set of rows of lime trees cut to marquise, two long lawns and a fountain.
