During the renovation of the Musée Rodin in Paris, the temporary exhibition room of the Chapel hosts the exhibition Rodin, the flesh, the marble. Fifty marbles and a dozen models in clay or plaster are presented, witnessing to the importance of this material and treatment reserved for it in the work of Rodin.
If modern criticism has primarily made of Auguste Rodin a modeler and a plaster man, its contemporaries saw him as the ruler of the stone before which "the marble trembles ". The marbles of Rodin, far from being conventional, give life and shape to the modern soul, " this psyche disjointed, brutal and delicate, spirited and weary, negation and fervent ". Rodin knows to animate a conventional material doomed, specially, to immobility. The flesh that attempted to represent sculptors from antiquity, with him becomes more alive than ever.
