The Gaumont Champs-Elysées Embassy closed (1959-2016)
Sunday, July 31 the prestigious Embassy Gaumont, created in 1959 on the farm to the Champs Elysees. 7 halls and 1568 seats disappear from the Parisian film scene after closures Pagoda, du Pasquier Saint-Lazare and La Bastille, a few weeks ago.
The geography of cinemas are changing. They are close to the people "Parisian bobos in the north, east and south. The Champs-Elysées, like Opera, are no longer of fixtures for Paris. Who would go on the Champs apart from the tourists? It n 'there is no nice bars, restaurants are expensive and finest theaters are elsewhere.
The reason for the closure is simple: Gaumont Embassy is old. To lifter (accessibility, comfort, lobby), it must transform. And it is not profitable. The costs would be disproportionate. The address, not far from the Disney Store and Galeries Lafayette future, should be replaced by J. M. Weston brand shoes.
Gaumont will have no more than the "Champs-Elysées Marignan" (six rooms, 1700 beds, created in 1933), which was across the other side of the avenue. It hosts many premieres. Both addresses were merged in 2004 to become only "Gaumont Champs-Elysées". However attendance at two complexes had dropped by 17% between 2014 and 2015. It was 1.3 million entries in its reconciliation there are twelve years and finally drew half (657,000)
