- An ephemeral Grand Palais
An ephemeral Grand Palais will be installed on the Champ-de-Mars in 2021
From January 2021, Grand Palais will begin major renovations at the same time as it will prepare for the events of the Olympic Games in 2024. During this period, the hosting of the major events that make it famous, will be maintained and organized in an ephemeral Grand Palais, installed on the Champ-de-Mars. Major events, usually held under the nave, will be maintained, including the FIAC, Saut Hermès, Chanel Fashion Week, Paris Photos or cultural and artistic events designed by the RMN Grand Palais. And in 2024, the building will also host the judo and wrestling competitions of the games.
Palais de la découverte, museum and scientific cultural center, installed on 25 000 m² in the west of the Grand Palais, is also moving temporarily. It will be the first to close in August 2020 to settle in an ephemeral structure that will open in September 2020 in the 15th arrondissement of Paris, in the heart of André-Citroën Park. The ephemeral structure, with a total surface area of 770 m², will include three scientific mediation spaces of 98 m² each, to accommodate exhibitions, demonstrations and workshops: a planetarium with an area of 50 m² (49 seats), reception areas, rest areas, services and technical local.
